One of the villagers walks over to a nearby bush and tosses something.

<b>"Check it out, someone dropped a gold acorn in there."
He calls out.

The other villagers all turned their heads, but I went over to take a closer look and started digging through the bushes.  That's when I felt a kick from behind. Those no-good villagers walked away roaring out in laughter, leaving me stuck in the bushes. I squirmed around attempting break free and a glint of gold caught my eye. It was the gold acorn that was tossed. I examined it for a moment and pocketed it in my raggety pants.

Two soldiers were passing by and talking. They were both dressed head-to-toe in heavy armor. One had a long white beard and the other had a scar on his chin. Soldiers patrolling the area, nothing unusual. I thought nothing of it. As I was about to call out for help, I heard what "White Beard" and "Chin Scar" here were talking about. Something about doing away with "the old man." So I listened in for a little bit more, keeping as still and quiet as I could.

<b>"We get 'em when he least suspects it!"
            said Chin Scar.

<b>"Hah! The king will never see it coming."
            White Beard added.

They're gonna kill the king! My knees were trembling now and that caused the bushes to start rustling. Both the soldiers turned their heads towards my way and now I nearly wet myself.
Someone was making their way over.

Clink..

         Clank..

Clink..

         Clank..

Clink..

But there was a long pause. He stopped. Suddenly, a hand reaches in and grabs me. Next thing I knew, I was on the ground with my face against the dirt. It was White Beard and he had his spear pointed at me. He shouts across to Chin Scar.

<b>"We got ourselves an eavesdropper! He's heard too much."

<b>"Better kill him."

I started to panic.

<b>"There's no need for that!"
                             I shouted.

I quickly followed up with
<b>                           "Besides, who's gonna believe me!"

I reached into my pocket and grabbed the gold acorn. Then I offered it to him. He swipes it off my hand and looks at it for a second. As soon as I heard the words "Get lost" I got up and ran as fast as I could back to the village.

I wandered around the village for hours trying to figure out what just happened. I stopped when I saw a big crowd gathered up just outside the palace. Squeezing my way through the crowd to see what the commotion was about. It was the king and he was giving a speech. The place had soldiers all over. I recognized one of the soldiers standing next to the king. It was White Beard! I was feeling uneasy right about now.

After the king finished his speech, White Beard slowly reached for his spear. My chest grew tight. I looked around but not one person had a clue of what was about to happen. I rushed over and jumped in front of the king just as White Beard swung his spear.

<b>"Fool! I should've killed you!"
White Beard screamed.

Soon, White Beard was surrounded by a swarm of soldiers. I noticed the gold acorn hanging on a necklace from his neck.

<b>"I believe this is mine."
I reached over and yanked it off.

I felt a stinging pain across my chest. I looked down to see a huge gash. I was bleeding so much. My head was spinning and spinning until the point I finally collapsed.

When I awoke, I found my wounds were treated. The king was sitting at the bedside. And then I remembered.. Chin Scar! I quickly got up.

<b>"Your life is still in danger!"
I warned him.

<b>"Do you mean the man with the scar on his chin?"
He replied.

I nodded slowly with a puzzled look on my face.

<b>"He came charging towards me and slipped on that gold acorn <b>that fell out of your hand when you passed out."
He let out a hearty laugh.

I let out a sigh of relief.

<b>"You should rest."
The king got up and left the room.

I laid my head back down on the pillow. That's odd.. I shifted around a bit then reached under the pillow. There I found, the gold acorn.
